The Reason Why I’ve Had the Original Theme Song of Pokemon on Repeat ALL WEEK In My Head

readthemallthonWhen I heard about this read-a-thon I had a mild heart attack with the amount of awesome being thrown in my direction. Come on! Books and Pokemon? I’m so in I was in the moment the idea was conceived by the awesome Aentee  over at Read At Midnight. So on with the technical stuff because I know you’ll want to join in too.

What The Hell is this Read-a-thon?

The Pokemon Indigo League #ReadThemAllThon is a 3 weeks long reading challenge based on the Kanto’s Indigo League. Long-time fans of the series would recognize this as the first set of gyms Ash Ketchum had to conquer in his quest to become the Pokemon Master. Now you, my friends, will also embark on a journey to become the very best. Instead of fighting gym battles, you’ll be reading books instead!

When is it?

The read-a-thon will run for 3 weeks between Sunday 14th August to Sunday 4th September.

You can sign up anytime between now and the end of the read-a-thon.

One of the really cool parts about this readathon is that you get to play as a trainer with a Pokemon, evolving and leveling them up as you finish books. Now I agonized over this chose. I’m serious, you should see the notes with scribbled Pokemon! What I finally settled on is…..

Fennekin!

Pokemon

I mean look at this freaking cutie! I fell in love the moment I saw it. I have been absolutely gaga over foxes and one of my favorite first generation Pokemon is Vulpix and I love fire Pokemon so this is the perfect Pokemon for me! This Pokemon does have 3 evolutions so I hope that I can make it work!

On to the books

Note: I am also participating in ARC August so a good chunk of these are going to be ARC’s)

SST Book Tour: Signs of You by Emily France + Giveway|ARC Review

SST Book Tour: Signs of You by Emily France + Giveway|ARC ReviewSigns of You by Emily France
Published by Soho Teen on July 19th 2016
Genres: Young Adult
Pages: 240
Goodreads

Since sixteen-year-old Riley Strout lost her mother two years ago, her saving grace has been her quirky little family in the grief support group she joined as a freshman. Jay, Kate, and Noah understand her pain; each lost a loved one, and they’ve stuck together in spite of their differences, united by tragedies only they understand.
When Riley thinks she spots her mother shopping in a grocery store, she fears she is suffering some sort of post-traumatic stress. Then Jay and Kate report similar experiences. Only Noah hasn’t had some kind of vision, which is perhaps why he’s become so skeptical and distant.
When Noah disappears, Riley fears she’s lost another loved one. As they frantically search for him, she, Kate, and Jay are drawn into the mystery surrounding a relic that belonged to Jay’s dead father and contains clues about the afterlife. Riley finds herself wrestling with her feelings for both Noah and Jay—which have become clear only in Noah’s absence. If Riley is to help those she loves, and herself, she must set things right with the one she’s lost.

I’m not going to lie, what first attracted me to Signs of You was first the cover and the synopsis. Who doesn’t like a story that people who are grief stricken start to see their dead loved ones. It gives a contemporary (not my cup of tea) just enough mystical elements that I couldn’t give up the opportunity to read and review it for you today for the Saturday Street Team Tour! So without further ado here is the review! I absolutely love dividing reviews into highlights and give you as the reader of my reviews the ability to see why I gave each star that I gave it and the reason why I didn’t give certain stars. Easy peasy right?

three-half-stars

What I Liked

one-starI absolutely loved the paranormal element and how it slowly built throughout the book. The characters didn’t figure things out (you know how sometimes one character is just TOO smart). I hate this aspect in some mysteries and I loved how drawn out and twisty and turny the reveal was!

one-starThis book was well researched. While I think that at times the religious aspect of what was going on was a little much you can tell how much the author absolutely did her research on the St. Ignatius aspect of the book. I always love when I can see a writers research and how well thought out an aspect of the book is. Kudos!

one-starI loved the father daughter aspect of Riley and her father. As a daughter who was raised by her father it really hits home that relationship. While at times it was a little corny I can absolutely tell you that is very realistic to how it goes. Imagine having to have the time of the month conversation with your dad but have it be your entire teenage life. AKWARD.

What I Didn’t Like

half-starI took a half star off because it took me awhile to become engaged with the characters and I felt frustrated at how long it was taken me. The reason why I took only a half star off for this one is because I think that it was completely subjective to me. I don’t read contemporaries and for the most part prefer a lot of action in my book (even for character driven novels) and I feel like contemporaries are….slower? I’m not sure how to explain this one but, hey, it’s what it is!

img-thingWhile I took a half star about how slow it was and I DID say above that I loved the mystery, throughout the majority of the book I couldn’t help but feel bored by it at times by how un-action packed the whole mystery was. The idea of a religious relic and a saint and possible curse is freaking awesome but unfortunately it fell a little dry at times. UGHHH my dueling personality with this book!

img-thingThe final aspect of the book was the romance. Now, it could be considered romance light and it didn’t overshadow the story but I feel like there didn’t need to be an ounce of romance in this book. But, again this is my subjective nature when it comes to certain things and if you like light….light romance you’ll probably love this!

When it comes down to this I absolutely enjoyed Signs of You. Even though I did find some faults with aspects of the story most of them were subjective to me. I could see while reading this how people would love it!  I was kept going by a need to know what was happening to these characters and that is completely awesome to me. Most times if I have an issue with the plot it is one of the first things that makes me not like a book (I’m a pretty fickle reader). Believe me, anyone who loves contemporary with a little paranormal mystery will LOVE Signs of You. Yes, you reading this. Read it.

BBCP Pages to Pictures: The Final Empire: Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson

uWh-8YT9

I decide that I needed a big kick in the pants this summer creatively. Enter sweet Nori over at Read Write Love and her Book Blogger Creative Project! I signed up and was put on the Magenta Team and we came up with an idea that we duped “Pages to Pictures” (sounds fancy right). Pages to Pictures is a feature were each of the members of the Magenta Team pick a book that they liked and build its movie from the ground up. Actors, setting, whether it should be a movie or television show, and everything in between.

You want to know my book?

Sanderson-Mistborn-Blog

The Final Empire: Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson

(the first book in the series)

Boy when I thought of this one I was not really anticipating the pressure I’d feel (by myself) in making this as best that I could. Mistborn is a well-loved book and there probably are going to be some problems with something that I put but I hope that my vision could be seen.  So without further ado here is my The Final Empire:Mistborn.

TV or Movie

First I had to decide whether or not I would want to make Mistborn a movie or a television show and why. At first I was thinking “hell yeah a movie” but then I got to thinking about how much the magic system is vital to the world and shapes EVERYTHING, even the people that it touches and I knew that movies were just not ENOUGH. So television it is! But what station should do this GRAND!

Well, HBO of course! They’ve already proven that they can do big budget shows and ROCK at them (Game of Thrones). I would never want channels like Syfy touching this movie because like Sword of Truth series they wouldn’t be able to do it justice. This movie needs a BIG budgetsetting

_85798724_1920xxxjasonhawkes-0056For the most part while reading I envisioned the streets of London. Not today’s London but early 20th century London. Most of the scenes in this book involve alleyways or rooftops and London would be the perfect place for it! Seriously, the alleyway scenes in this book are some of the best and I couldn’t picture another place.

cast of charactersVIN VinpicThis is the actress Yaya Urassaya Sperbund and is the best representative of how I pictured Vin. Vin is much younger than I believe Yaya is but I always pictured Vin being a mix of two different cultures (because she is) and well this actress is beautiful and even though Vin goes through the majority of the book believing she isn’t beautiful I think that she really is.

kelsier

8409c5e06e765d2ac48f122d6e1f97beThis was honestly the character that I spent the most time agonizing over and I finally found him on a whim watching The Hobbit. Aidan Turner. Wow I have watched a few of his shows and his ability to play an emotional range is perfect for the character of Kelsier. Kelsier is whitty at times and uses humor as a weapon but is very deeply damaged and at times can’t help but let that show. So here is my Survivor of Hathsin.

marshtom-wlaschiha-pa-vorspann_7704029-original-lightboxOh gosh, can you just look at this guy? I feel like Marsh got a lot of flack in the books and one of the reasons why I am including him is because he does play a vital role in this series. I’m not going to say how or why but not only does he play a role for the book but his brother Kelsier. Plus Tom Wlaschiha is pretty good looking and can hold up a candle to Aidan and I honestly feel like in the book just because he was the more “responsible” one doesn’t mean he couldn’t have been good looking too.

elendgame-of-thrones-kill-the-boy-piracyI’m sure that we all know who this guy is but I really want to see Kit Harington play a character that isn’t Jon Snow. That isn’t anything like Jon Snow. Come on man, I would love to see this. Gah. I will end it here but yes this is my pick for Elend.

musthavescenesNow here are some scenes that I’m going to put in here that I believe are very important to the book and that really should make their way into this fictional television show. You know as a book reader sometimes they cut off scenes that as someone who really doesn’t or isn’t interest in the book would think is trivial but as a lover of the book you are screaming and thrashing around at them being cut (I’m looking at you Game of Thrones). I’m not going to go into specifics because that will ruin some of the story if you haven’t read them and if you have you probably know what I’m talking about.

glimpse into the pastThroughout the book you are given glimpses into the past. These are very important to the story line and I could see a television show trying to cut them for time. Don’t.

brothertobrother

Similar to above, there are several scenes between Kelsier and Marsh that are pivotal to the relationship between the two and future events. Writers might call it fluff but again very important.

inner thoughtsI’m not going to go into detail what Vin’s mission is but it changes the way that she views not only the world around her but herself. Those scenes are very important and I’ve seen these scenes taken out of movies before and it usually ruins the watcher and the characters connection.

Kelsier and VinLike the moments between Kelsier and Marsh the teaching moments between Kelsier and Vin are extremely important for the growth of not only the characters but for the story and their relationship. Don’t fuck it up. Plus this is were we learn about the very unique magic system!

What do you think about the feature that my group and I created? I’d really love to hear your thoughts down below!

I’m Going to Completely Dominate ARC August

img_7515This is going to be my first year participating in ARC August and boy am I going to participate! I have accumulated quite a hefty pile of ARCs that I need to read. Need is a strong word I know, but I want to give each and every book that I have received its spotlight time. So ARC August is a go for August. I have set July goals instead of an actual TBR and I love it. It has given me such freedom in not being stressed about specific books so that is what I’m going to do with ARC August as well.  Here goes!

Read an ARC that isn’t my normal genre

Read an ARC from an author that I loved

Read an ARC that I’ve had for a while

Read an ARC from a debut author

Read an e-ARC

Read an ARC from the genre I love

I’m going to try my hardest to keep these all to separate books. If I read more than six books I will keep pulling from this list (example: if I finish all six categories I’ll start from the beginning again). This gives me the freedom to pick which ARC’s I want to read, but the structure and organization of being able to list. Who else is going to join ARC August? If so, go to the lovely ladies over at Read. Sleep. Repeat and check out more info!

In Which I Hang My Head in Shame but I Will Make Up For It

You know that series that draws you to it but you’re so afraid to read it that you keep putting it off and putting it off? Well, my series like that is the Air Awakens series by Elise Kova. I have been drawn to these books constantly but it just screamed to be binge read. It screamed it in my face like a toddler having to be dragged away from the park (any parents out there know what the hell I mean). But now, I can finally read this series! Why? The final book in the series Crystal Crowned is coming out today! Yes! I absolutely cannot wait to dive into this series, especially since how well perceived it has been. I love books that have a solid fan base and aren’t too big for their britches (we all know those series). So without further ado let me introduce you to Crystal Crowned and the entire series in all it’s glory! It’s the last one, I just couldn’t resist showing it with all of it’s sister. Look at the entire beautiful series.
